Celebrate Roe by Demanding the Reproductive Dignity of Incarcerated People!
Repost from California Latinas for Reproductive Justice (CLRJ):
On the anniversary of Roe v. Wade we celebrate our right to bodily autonomy by demanding reproductive dignity for all! Tomorrow, Thursday, January 23rd our Co-Sponsored Bill AB 732, The Reproductive Dignity for Incarcerated People Act, will be heard in the Assembly Appropriations Committee. This is a huge step towards achieving reproductive justice for pregnant incarcerated people.
California jails are failing to uphold the dignity and humanity of pregnant people by not providing timely access to standard reproductive care. AB 732 would close the gap by requiring adequate, timely, and standardized reproductive care for incarcerated people regardless of where they are being held (prison or county jails). As a Women of Color led Reproductive Justice organization, we know first-hand that those being affected disproportionately are people from our own communities. At CLRJ we believe a person's incarceration status should not dictate their access to adequate and dignified reproductive healthcare. It’s time to lift the bars off reproductive healthcare and resources for incarcerated people!

California’s women’s jail population has risen six-fold since 1970 – twice as much as the male jail population over the same period. 4% of incarcerated women are pregnant at the time of intake. I support lifting the bars off reproductive healthcare and urge you to support #AB732 because a person’s incarceration status should not dictate their access to timely and dignified reproductive healthcare. #DignifiedCare4All
The lack of standardization of obstetrics care and housing accommodations in California’s jails is adversely impacting pregnancy and childbirth outcomes, as well as the health and wellbeing of both the parent and the infant. I support lifting the bars off reproductive healthcare and urge you to support #AB732 because a person’s incarceration status should not dictate their access to timely and dignified reproductive healthcare. #DignifiedCare4All
