Session 2: Child Welfare System and Family Regulation

Date

Friday, May 20, 2022  from 9 AM - 12 PM (3 CEUs)

Description

In this session, participants will learn about the history of America’s child welfare system and how it interacts with race, class, social policy, and other legal systems. Participants will come away with an understanding of the differences between child welfare system reform and child welfare system abolition and apply these frameworks to current policy issues, such as blind removal, mandated reporting, resource family approval, and prevention and reunification services. Participants will also learn tips for engaging in courageous conversations as they evaluate their work in the context of these frameworks and engage in practice and policy changes that eliminate systemic disproportionalities and disparities.
